In the beautiful countryside around Morna and Sant Carles, among the green meadows exists a really special place, quite normal in appearance, just like a small country cottage, but if you get closer and open the gates you find out that it is a home to well over 200 animals including horses, cats, dogs, ferrets, pigs, chickens and goats.

As a big animal lover, I have been there several times already, on the occasion of charity parties and working as a volunteer, but I really wanted to know more of the history of this place and to tell you about it because I’m sure that among you, my dear followers, there are people like me: who love animals and who may want to participate in volunteer activities that are organized every day.

And so, here we are, in the magical world of Mojis Animal Sanctuary, the place that was born from love and passion of Abraham, the dog trainer, who has moved to Ibiza several years ago and little by little realised that his dream was not to train animals but to live close to them in a place, where they can stay not only waiting for an adoption but simply be happy and free to live the life they deserve.

At the arrival I am welcomed by pigglets, sweet white horse and few dogs. Right away Abraham tells me about an important thing: not to give to much attention to the dogs because – as they are so many – there would be too much energie and agitation, so it’s better to stay discreet. Not an easy thing for me of course, since I’d just caress all of them, but I stick to the rules and we pass the whole squadron to go to the garden’s separate area where live smaller dogs, cats, lots of bunnies and ferrets.

Abraham, always attentive to the situation around us, tells me that for him it is very important to accept and help all animals, also and even especially those who have health problems or are simply aged and that is why they struggle to find a home because they need a lot of attention, while in Mojis they are like in haven for living a happy life.

All animals arriving to Mojis can stay there and not necessarily go for adoption, but of course not every animal will get used to this wonderful place and in some cases they are being adopted.

One of the newcomers is Coco, a German shepherd, that became famous thanks to Ibiza facebook groups for its history, and lives at Mojis for a few months now. Despite the health problems for which he cannot use his hind legs, Coco has adapted  very well and is much loved by Abraham, who told me that he is learning a lot from his new “friend” on all fours.

Surely you wonder how Abraham manages to carry on a structure of this type alone by himself, and of course it’s a question I asked. The answer is the private donations, especially friends, animal lovers, including foreign associations as All for Animals, which in part help him to carry out this major project. In the summer, with the great influx of tourists in terms of aid and donations is much better, but you know, the animals need to eat every day. During the year they also organize some funny parties to make known Mojis and his friends and that’s exactly where you can come with your help.

So if you are in Ibiza, or come for a while and you want to volunteer, you can call Abraham to arrange with him because only visiting Mojis one can understand their real daily needs.

After spending some time at Mojis I can tell you that you can actually feel that all these animals are happy, they are free and they were extremely fortunate to find a person like Abraham for whom their joy and their well-being is  mission.

Nella meravigliosa campagna nelle vicinanze della Morna e di San Carles, tra i verdi prati si trova un luogo veramente speciale, all’ apparenza una normale e piccola casetta di campagna, ma se ne apriamo i cancelli scopriamo che è la dimora di ben più di 200 animali tra cavalli, gatti, cane, furetti, maialini, galline e capre.

Da grande amante degli animali, vi ero già stata in un paio di volte in occasione delle feste che organizzano a scopo benefico, e come volontaria, ma ero veramente interessata a conoscere meglio la sua storia e raccontarvela perchè sono sicura che tra di voi che mi seguite ci sono persone che amano come me gli animali e che magari vorrebbero partecipare alle attività di volontariato che vengono organizzate ogni giorno.

Ed ecco che così che entro nel magico mondo di Mojis Animal Sanctuary, un luogo che nasce dall’ amore e dalla passione di Abraham, addestratore di cani, trasferitosi ad Ibiza da ormai tanti anni e che pian piano ha capito che il suo sogno non era addestrare animali, ma potere vivere in stretto contatto con loro in un luogo in cui potessero essere felici e liberi di vivere una vita come si meritano, quindi non solo come un luogo di passaggio per poi essere adottati.

Appena arrivata vengo accolta dai maialini, il dolcissimo cavallo bianco e qualche cagnolino che mi fa le feste; regola importante che mi dice subito Abraham è di non dare troppe attenzioni ai cani perchè essendo tanti ci sarebbe troppa energia e quindi è meglio essere discreti. Non è stata ovviamente cosa facile perchè io avrei fatto coccole a tutti, ma mi attengo alle regole e superato lo squadrone ci andiamo a sedere in giardino, in un area separata dove ci sono altri cagnolini più piccoli, gattini, tantissimi coniglietti e i furetti.

Abraham, sempre attento alla situazione intorno a noi, mi racconta che per lui è molto importante accogliere ed aiutare tutti gli animali, anche, e soprattutto, quelli che hanno problemi di salute, di vecchiaia e che per questo fanno fatica a trovare una casa perchè bisognosi di molte attenzioni, mentre in Mojis trovano un rifugio per vivere una vita felice.

Tutti gli animali che arrivano a Mojis possono restare, non devono per forza essere adottatti, anche se ovviamente non tutti gli animali vi si abituato, essendo ogni caso è diverso dall’ altro e quindi quelli vanno in adozione.

Uno degli ultimi arrivati è Coco, un pastore tedesco, diventato famoso grazie ai gruppi di facebook di Ibiza per la sua storia, e che da qualche mese vive a Mojis. Nonostante i problemi di salute per i quali non ha l’ uso delle zampe posteriori, Coco si è adattato benissimo ed è amatissimo da Abraham che mi  confida che sta imparando tantissimo da questo suo nuovo “amico” a quattro zampe.

Sicuramente vi chiederete come faccia da solo a portare avanti da solo una struttura di questo tipo, e ovviamente è una domanda che gli ho fatto. La risposta sono le donazioni di privati, soprattutto amici, amanti degli animali, associazioni anche straniere come All for Animals, che in parte lo aiutano a portare avanti questo grande progetto. Nel periodo estivo con la grande affluenza turistica a livello di aiuti e donazioni va molto meglio, ma si sà, gli animali hanno bisogno di mangiare tutti i giorni. Durante l’ anno vengono anche organizzate  delle simpatiche feste per fare conoscere Mojis e i suoi amici dove appunto si può apportare il proprio aiuto.

Se poi siete ad Ibiza, o venite per un certo periodo e avete voglia di fare volontariato potete chiamare Abraham per organizzarvi con lui perchè solo visitando Mojis potrete capire  il reale bisogno di aiuto giornaliero che c’è.

Trascorrendo del tempo a Mojis posso dirvi che si percepisce che tutti questi animali sono felici, sono liberi e sono stati estremamente fortunati a trovare una persona come Abraham per cui la loro allegria, il loro stare bene è la sua missione.
