Good morning!
Here I am again to tell you about my first trip around Holland.
I arrived late at night in Rotterdam and I was really surprised by the huge skyscrapers, the big canals, the harbor, quite different atmosphere from what I am used to see everyday on my little Ibiza. It remembered me when I went for the first time in New York in 2008 and I arrived in the cityt at the same time. Shocking!!!
The first day I went for a lunch in the famous Hotel New York located in ancient seat of Hollande America Line, in the Kop van Zuid port area: it was the depart of the ships that connected Rotterdam to New York. You can still feel that old style atmosphere and it was like I was waitning for my ship leaving the harbour!! In the restaurant you can have a very nice and tasty menu.
From Hotel New York I reached the city center to see the Cube Houses, or Kubuswoningen, designed by architect Piet Blom in the 70s, symbol of the architectural renaissance of the city.
But the place that I really enjoyed the most was the Markthal, near the Blaak Station, the first covered the Dutch market.
The Markthal is an immense structure with avant-garde accommodations, shops, restaurants and market stalls since 2104. It’s a great architectural work where It seems to have the whole world inside and journey that goes from Europe up to Asia with incredible colors and scents.
I could not miss a nice bike ride around the city, crossing bridges, canals and stopping for a drink in Witte strasse.
In Rotterdam I was staying on Avontuur, a boat of 40 meters moored in one of the canals in the city center.
It’s not only a bed and breafast, but on Avontuur the owner Premala organizes weekly workshops, meditation meetings, ecstatic and divine dance: all activities for inner growth, which are a fundamental part of my life. In the Fb page you can check all the activities.

Nel mio primo viaggio in Olanda del quale ti ho già iniziato a parlare nel mio post precedente, ho scelto come base Rotterdam, modernissima città a un’ora a sud ovest di Amsterdam.
Arrivata in tarda notte gli enormi grattacieli, i canali, il porto, hanno subito destato la mia meraviglia ed è stato il mio battesimo visto che era la prima volta che venivo in Olanda. Mi ha ricordato moltissimo la prima volta che andai a New York nel 2008 visto che anche in quell’ occasione arrivai in tarda notte e la vista della città con le sue luci non me la dimenticherò mai.
Il primo giorno sono andata a fare un pranzo nel famosissimo Hotel New York che si trova nell’ antica sede della Hollande America Line, in una zona del porto di Kop van Zuid: era da qui che per un secolo partivano le navi che collegavano Rotterdam con New York. Si respira ancora quell’ atmosfera old style e come se avessi fatto un salto nel passato mi immaginavo di essere lì in attesa della partenza della mia nave: come sempre sogno ad occhi aperti!! Nel ristorante c’è un menù molto variegato e per tutti i gusti.
Prendendo la macchina dall’ Hotel New York sono andata più verso il centro per vedere le Case Cubo, o Kubuswoningen, progettate e costruite dall’architetto Piet Blom negli anni settanta, baluardo della rinascita architettonica della città.
Ma il luogo che mi è veramente piaciuto di più è stato il Markthal, vicino alla Blaak Station, il primo mercato coperto d’Olanda.
Il Markthal è una immensa struttura avanguardista con alloggi, negozi, ristoranti e banchi del mercato. Un’opera dal grande valore architettonico. Sembra di avere il mondo intero all’ interno di un’ unica struttura e i sensi della vista e dell’ olfatto ti portano in un viaggio che va dall’ Europa fino all’ Asia con colori e profumi incredibili. Non sarei più uscita da lì.
Non poteva mandare un bel giro in bicicletta per la città, attraversando ponti, canali e fermandoci per bere qualcosa in Witte strasse.
A Rotterdam ho alloggiato su Avontuur, una barca di 40 metri ormeggiata in uno dei canali nel centro della città. Oltre ad essere un bed&breafast, su Avontuur vengono organizzate moltissime cose come workshop, incontri di meditazione, ecstatic e divine dance, tutte attività per la propria crescita personale, che per me sono una parte fondamentale della mia vita.
