Torre de Sa Sal Rossa o des Carregador

Hola a todos amantes de Ibiza!!

Hoy os quiero contar de un sitio que todavía no conocía y que se encuentra muy cerca de las famosas playa d’en Bossa y Es Cavallet.

Es una zona conocida por los ibizencos como la Xanga, una zona con varaderos de pescadores, unas calitas de piedras y sobre todo la Torre de defensa que, aunque los siglos hayan pasado, sigue allí, protegiendo la isla.

La torre de Sa Sal Rossa o des Carregadores es una de las torres de defensa que se encuentran en Ibiza y fue construida en el siglo XVI en la zona entre la que son ahora Playa d’en Bossa y Es Cavallet, llamada también la “Xanga”. Se puede disfrutar de una maravillosa vista de la ciudad de Eivissa, de las salinas, de playa d’en Bossa y Formentera. La Torre se utilizaba como refugio colectivo para los pobladores de los alrededores y sobretodo para los trabajadores de la Salinas cuando la isla era atacada por los piratas turcos y berberiscos, siendo la Sal la principal riqueza de la isla. La torre permitía acoger en el interior hasta 200 personas.

Tuvo diferentes nombre. La llamaban Torre Des Carregador porque estaba situada cerca de donde los barcos de sal cargaban la producción de la Salinera, ahora en Sa Canal de que os hablé en otro post. En el ano 2008 fue restaurada por el Consell Insular.

Es muy fácil llegar. Hay que ir en dirección Es Cavallet/ Salinas y después de San Francesc hay un cartel a la izquierda. Podéis llegar también andando desde playa d’ en Bossa. Yo disfrute mucho porque amo encontrar nuevos lugares, así en la naturaleza y con monumentos que nos recuerdan nuestros antepasados.

Pero este sitio es mucho mas antiguos porque a pocos metros de la torre se encuentra un yacimiento en “reposo” de los tiempos los fenicios y romanos donde se fabricaba la valiosa púrpura, el tinte rojo que se vendía a precio de oro. Ya os hablé de la Púrpura en mi post sobre Pou des Lleò. Os Acordáis?

La profesora Carmen Alfaro, fue la que trabajó en el año 2007 en estas excavaciones y ella fue mi profesora en la Universidad de Valencia de Historia Antigua. Asi que entre Ibiza, su historia y el rojo púrpura como color de alta moda en la antigüedades diría yo que al final todo tiene un sentido! Verdad???

Hi Ibiza Lovers,

Today I want to tell you about a site that I have just discovered and that is very near the famous Playa d’en Bossa and Es Cavallet.

It is an area known for the ibizencos as “Xanga”, an area with fishing docks, a stone beach and especially the defense tower called Sa Sal Rossa or des carregadores ( Salt carrier ).

It was built in the XVI century and it is located between Playa d’en Bossa and Es Cavallet. It was used as protection from the frequent attacks by turkish and berber pirates as the salt was the main source of wealth . The tower has a large internal capacity and it can accomodated until 200 people. During the years it gets a lot of names. One of them Des Carregadores because it was near where the workers collected the salt, now in Sa Canal. Do you rember my post?

In 2008 it was restored by Consell Insular of Ibiza and Formentera.

It is very easy to reach. You should go towards Es Cavallet / Salinas and after San Francesc there is a sign on the left. You can also reach it by foot from Playa d’en Bossa. I enjoyed it a lot because I love finding new places as well in nature as monuments that remind us of our ancestors.

But this place is much older because a few meters from the tower there is an arquaeological site of the times of the Phoenicians and Romans where they manufactured the valuable purple, the red dye that was precious like gold. I already talked about the purple in the post about Pou des Lleó.

In 2007 Professor Carmen Alfaro, was the one who worked in this excavation and she was my teacher of Ancient History at the University of Valencia. So: Ibiza, ancient History, and the production of the most beautiful color for fashion at those times, i can say that everything has a meaning! hasn’t it???

Paseando por Ibiza: Portixol

What is the best way to spend a wintery Sunday in Ibiza? For sure discovering the island with friends.

There are lots of paths to explore within the woods and the countryside of Ibiza and I am sure if I was going alone I would easily get lost.

For this reason I joined the group Ibiza Walking Association with Rudi and Angela that were the guides for this wonderful walk to the beach Portixol and more, for a total of 8 km. The walk was organized to collect funds for this charity called Food for Ibiza, to help people in need on the island

Portixol, it’s a natural harbour that is what the name means, located in the north west of Ibiza, nearly as completed circle with the typical fishermen huts.

To reach the beach the walk is not difficult, if you go in the summer make sure you have plenty of water especially for the return that is a steep hill.

From the beach we carry on up to the hill, went through remaining of old houses and antic stone oven, paths through the woods, fields with delicious wild asparagus. At the end we admire the amazing view of the sea where is located the luxury hotel Na Xamena, famous for the swimming pools on different levels right on the cliff, where I hope I will be back soon.

Lo mejor que se puede en un domingo de invierno?? Seguramente un paseo por la isla con los amigos.

Hay muchos caminos por los bosques que si fuera sola seguramente me perderia, asi que la idea de ir en grupo para poder apreciar nuevos lugares me encanta. En este caso estuvimos con el grupo Ibiza Walking Association y nuestras guias fueron Rudi y Angela.

La caminada ha sido organizada tambien para la asociacion Food for Ibiza, que ayuda la gente que no tiene comida en las islas de Ibiza y Formentera.

La caminada ha sido de unos 8 km, y la primera parada fue la pequena playa de Portixol.

Es como un pequeno puerto natural en el norte- oeste de Ibiza, redondo y con las tipicas casitas de pescadores.

Para llegar la caminada no es muy dificil y creo que sea uno de estos sitios perfectos en verano cuando las otras playas estan llenas de gente.

Subimos despues hasta la cima de la colina, pasando para viejas casas con antiguos hornos, bosques y campos con asparragos salvajes, que delicia!!!

Al final disfrutamos de la vista del acantilado del hotel rural Na Xamena, donde espero volver pronto para banarme en sus piscinitas con vista a la mar.

Qual’è la cosa migliore da fare in una domenica d’ inverno qua ad Ibiza?? Sicuramente una bella passeggiata con gli amici.

Ci sono molti sentieri da esplorare che si inoltrano nei boschi e nella campagna, e sono sicura che se andassi da sola mi ci perderei. Per questo mi sono organizzata per unirmi al gruppo di Ibiza Walking Association con Rudi ed Angela come guide della bellissima passeggiata che ci ha portati alla spiaggia di Portixol ed oltre: ben 8 km.

La camminata aveva anche uno scopo benefico per Food for Ibiza, un’ associazione che si occupa di dare da mangiare alle famiglie che non ne hanno la possibilità nell’ isola di Ibiza e Formentera.

Portixol, come già dice il nome, è un porto naturale che si trova nella zona nord ovest di Ibiza, proprio quasi un completo cerchio con le tipiche casette dei pescatori.

Per arrivarvi la camminata non è difficile, ma se ci andate d’ estate portatevi molta acqua, soprattutto per la risalita.

Dalla spiaggia poi abbiamo continuato fino alla cima della collina, passando tra vecchi case abbandonate con antichi forni, sentieri nei boschi, campi con deliziosi asparagi selvatici.

Alla fine abbiamo potuto godere della vista sul mare dove si trova l’ hotel di lusso Na Xamena, famoso per le sue piscine a strapiombo sulla costa, e dove spero potere ritornare presto.

Spero vi sia venuta un pò voglia di venire ad Ibiza per fare delle belle passeggiate.

The Secret Cave: Sa Figuera Borda

Today I felt like my energy of explorer came back and I took the car to go in direction of Cala Comta.

I love to take a walk, starting from Sunset Ashram and going north to the old guard tower, of which I will definitely tell you more soon, with quite pretty pictures , but today it was too windy and at the last moment I decided to go for an other option.

My friends told me about a cave right near Cala Comta so I started searching, which – thanks to my good sense of orientation – has given excellent results.

The site in question is located in the south of the famous beach and you have to take a dirt road on the left before you get to the large parking lot and follow it until you see the sea in front of you .

When you arrive you will be amazed by the beauty of the coast and the view.

It’s a large, flat area on the edges of the cliff which gives a great sense of freedom and reminded me very much Cap Barbary on Formentera .

In the background , looking south, stands our cathedral rock , Es Vedra .

I parked my car, took my backpack with my fresh juice , and went for exploration .

I followed the coast towards the south, and at one point I found the narrow stairs leading down the cliff, fortunately safe, well made and with protection . The landscape was already great, but the surprise was yet to come . At the end of the stairs I was breathless : a huge cave that connects the two bays and thru which you can see the ‘ island of S ‘ Espartar .

It is not entirely natural because precisely at its base were built fishermen’s cabins, not in very ecological way I have to admit, and in spite of few damages this place still has its charm .

It was really a big surprise for me and I took some time to savor my discovery . I was lucky being protected from the wind and even if we have december – I could take a sunbath in bikini . These are the true luxuries of living in Ibiza for me, the true quality of life !!!

Oggi sono tornata alla carica con la mia eneria da esploratrice e ho preso la macchina in direzione di Cala Comta.

Adoro la passeggiata che partendo dal Sunset Ashram va in direzione nord arrivando fino all’ antica torre di guardia e della quale sicuramente vi parlerò presto con anche belle immagini, ma oggi c’era troppo vento e all’ ultimo ho deciso di optare per un’ altra meta.

Degli amici mi avevano parlato della grotta di Sa Figuera Borda proprio nei pressi di Cala Comta e quindi ho iniziato la ricerca che grazie al mio buon senso dell’ orientamento ha dato ottimi risultati.

Il luogo in questione si trova a sud rispetto alla famosa spiaggia e bisogna prendere una stradina sterrata a sinistra, prima di arrivare al grande parcheggio e seguirla fino a che si vede il mare davanti a voi.

Quando arriverete vi stupirete per la bellezza della costa e della vista. E’ un amplia area piatta sui bordi della scogliera che dà un grande senso di libertà e mi ha ricordato moltissimo Cap Barberia a Formentera.

In fondo, guardando verso a sud spicca la nostra cattedrale di roccia, Es Vedrà.

Parcheggiata la macchina, ho preso con me il mio zainetto con il mio succo fresco, e sono partita per l’ esplorazione. Ho seguito la costa in direzione sud ed a un certo punto ho trovato delle strette scaline che scendevano lungo la scogliera, fortunatamente sicure, ben fatte e con la dovuta protezione.

Il paesaggio era già magnifico, ma la sorpresa doveva ancora venire. Finite le scale sono rimasta senza fiato: ecco la grandissima grotta che unisce le due parti di mare e dal cui interno si può vedere l’ isola d’ Espartar.

Non è tutto naturale perche appunto alla sua base sono state costruite delle casette di pescatori, diciamo anche non troppo ecologiche, un pò fatiscenti ma che nell’ insieme rendono il luogo tra il suggestivo.

E’ stata per me veramente una grande sorpresa e mi sono presa del tempo per gustarmi questa mia scoperta.

La fortuna poi che ero protetta dal vento e nonostante fosse dicembre ho potuto prendere il sole in costume.

Per me questi sono i veri lussi di vivere a Ibiza, la vera qualità della vita!!!

Sunday walk in Santa Agnes

I spent this sunday discovering new places in Ibiza and you know that i love it. I decided to join the group of “Ibiza walking association“, thanks to the suggestion of my dear friend Barbara, creator and chef of Eat Raw Ibiza.

The meeting point was in the nice little church of Santa Agnes just nearby of the bar Can Cosmi, where i like to go to drink my orange juice and taste their famous spanish “Tortilla”.

Santa Agnes or Santa Ines is one of the most authentic places on the island. You can see beautiful ancient “fincas”, the old ibiza houses, walking through fields full of almond trees, white like snow in january, and feel the parfum of the pines walking in the little paths.

The wind from west was quite strong, but the sun was strong too so it was the perfetc day for our walk.

The view at the top of the hill was amazing: we could see the Bledas Islands, Sa Conillera and the top of Es Vedra. Really Incredible time!

Questa Domenica l’ ho trascorsa all’ insegna della natura e della scoperta di nuovi luoghi. Sono andata insieme alla mia amica Barbara, chef e creatrice di Eat Raw Ibiza alla passeggiata organizzata dall’ associazione Ibiza Walking Association: luogo d’ incontro la piccola chiesa di Santa Agnes nell’ omonimo paesino dell’ entroterra ibizeco, giusto a fianco del Bar Cosmi, dove mi piace andare per bere una spremuta d’ arancia e mangiare la loro famosa Tortilla spagnola.

Santa Agnes o Santa Ines è uno dei luoghi più autentici dell’ isola, in cui si possono ancora vedere antiche finche, attraversare campi pieni di mandorli, che creano uno spettacolo unico alla loro fioritura in gennaio, sentire l’ odoro dei pini percorrendo i piccoli sentieri.

Il vento da ovest soffiava abbastanza forte, ma il sole lo era altrettanto creando il clima perfettto per la nostra passeggiata.

E ne valeva la pena di camminare così tanto perchè la vista nel punto più alto è mozzafiato: si vedevano le isole Bledas, Sa Conillera e addirittura la punta di Es Vedrà. Un vero e proprio incanto!
